Imbolc Saturday 4th February 2012

Torch bearing Druids

Each year Marsden holds celebrations for Imbolc, the half way point between winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. It started with a procession, through the streets, led by some fire bearing Druids, some torch carrying, drumming foxes, and members of the public carrying lanterns made at workshops before the event - thick with snow and during a blizzard - onto the main site, where we were able to watch lots of fire spinning and crazy fire effects, then on comes Jack Frost, with some fox followers, then on comes the Green Man, with some fox followers, they fight it out ... the Green Man wins! Yay! Bring on Spring!
